Fall 2010 Nail Color Trends

Those of us who have been waiting with baited breath for fall 2010 nail color trends were amazed...not a "they really took my breath away" kind of amazed. Actually, more of a stupefied kind of amazed, at least in the beginning.

It just took me a minute to acclimate myself and accept that I was reading about the stylishness of gray and beige nails for fall instead of hearing a description of the fingernails belonging to a crime victim being relayed to the cops by the medical examiner. Okay, I know that's drastic and even pretty gross but you have to admit that GRAY and BEIGE sounds dead and lifeless. But thankfully once you throw in some Chanel polish that is just a few shades short of being coal black (Paradoxal)or a smoky violet polish (Surreal Violet) by Estee Lauder things start to pep up a bit.

It's true that Fall 2010 Nail color trends probably are not going to be so cutting edge that they are remembered a decade or so from now, but the sophisticated look of the understated colors are really beginning to grow on me.

FALL FASHION TRENDS for 2010

Perhaps the most predictable of all fall fashion trends for 2010 that I have seen lately is that fall foliage IS a trend. That's right beautifully colored leaves are being seen everywhere!

Splashes of leaves are featured in the slighted muted prints of fall fabrics see on the 2010 Dolce & Gabbana runway and it should come as no big surprise that fashion accessories are following suit in both color and leafy designs.

Another of the fall fashion trends for 2010 that I find particularly interesting is the use of fabric floral rosettes. Not that they are unattractive or anything but I usually associate flowers with spring fashion rather than fall. Granted, the fabric flower buds are in sumptuous jewel tone colors but somehow so many flowers in autumn seems a little odd to me.

BLACK BALLET FLATS

I find it interesting that I see as many pairs of black ballet flats for women out and about in the stores as well as on many pairs of rapidly moving feet as late as the week after Memorial Day. In fact, far too flats are roaming about for the excuse that busy moms rushing out the door just slipped them on for lack of a more conveniently located or lighter colored pair of thongs or sandals.

Even celebrity moms who probably have an assistant or wardrobe organizer to put their outfits together are still looking sharp and sophisticated in black. For instance, just this week Katie Holmes and darling daughter Suri Cruise were on a shopping excursion at the Grove in LA and Katie’s choice of footwear was, you guessed it, black ballet flats. Baby Suri’s pretty toes were covered with a pair of pink ballet flats so the pastels, white or even lilac flats have yet to be nudged out of the running for late spring and early summer. But frugal fashion divas will be happy to hear that they will get more than one season’s use out of their black ballet flats.

WHICH FLATS are FASHIONABLE?

At the time of this article, women with an ample budget for shoes are buying up black Chanel ballet flats like winter was just around the corner. Other favorites are the gathered ballet flat regardless of the brand, the easy clean, easy wash Crocs that are so comfortable and cute and Steve Madden’s black ballet flats, Facade.

GATHERED, PLAIN or BUCKLES and BOWS

What would the fashion industry be if they were not consistently reinventing the wheel? It would be completely out of character for them to consider the style of plain, black ballerina flats too good to improve. First, they add tiny heels, then gather the toes or add a belt across the tip of the toe with a brass or silver buckle. One of my favorites is the black ballet flat that allows that little peek of toe cleavage. It’s my opinion that this does for flat shoes what peep toes does for pumps. It takes a basic design and transforms it into something sexy and alluring. And who would have ever thought we could have that and the comfort of flats in one neat little package?

HOT PINK PUMPS - HEELS for SPRING

Daylight savings time is ending and we need the latest hot pink pumps to compete with the blazing abundance of blooming azaleas. You can just bet that even my favorite Pride of Mobile is not going to outshine the hot pink heels that I have in mind.

The first day of spring is a teaser that sends me out to try on strappy sandals even though I know there are several months yet to come with temperatures that require my toes to be covered or at the most peep out from under the glove soft leather of my shoes. Not to mention that we still have April showers to consider when peep toe shoes with even the tiniest sliver of pretty pedicure showing could mean suffering through a meal with soaking wet feet. I'm willing to sacrifice my personal comfort for sexy feet, but not when it could bring on a nasty case of pneumonia.

My idea of the perfect hot pink pumps for early spring do their magic for my legs and feet with sparkling rhinestones, ribbons and heels. Save the hot pink heels with straps and peep toes for later in the year. My favorite shoes for braving late spring chill and dampness completely enclose my pretty toes and showcase my legs to full potential as only spike heel pumps can do.

Fuchsia is without a doubt a favorite of the woman who is not afraid of being noticed. My full hips keep me from filling my closet with hot pink dresses and pants. I restrict the use of bright pink to the smaller parts of my body; my fingernails, my toes and my Kate Spade pink leather shoes, totes and purse.

DIY EYEBROW SHAPING

After a professional eyebrow shaping (whether they are waxed threaded or plucked) in about four weeks the hair will have grown back and you will need to repeat the process. And in that four weeks there may be a few stragglers that threaten to compromise the perfectly shaped eyebrows that frame your face in such an attractive fashion.

To keep your eyebrows looking neat in between visits to the salon, here are a few tips to maintain your brows until the next eyebrow shaping session. I do not recommend changing the shape of your eyebrows yourself. These tips are simply to preserve for the shape of your eyebrows that your cosmetician considered to be perfect for the shape of your face.

To maintain the arch of your brows, you need only a pair of tweezers and the bathroom mirror. You can use your magnifying makeup mirror, but resist the urge to pluck inside the main shape. Identify the strays that are springing up under the arch and outside the boundaries set by your professional and remove them by plucking them out in the direction they are growing. This DIY eyebrow shaping session should be done well in advance of public appearances as some redness may occur.

After you have removed stray hairs, fill the main shape of the eyebrow in using a matching pencil and set with eyebrow gel. Many eyebrow pencils now come with a kit that includes a small brow brush and gel.

Following this procedure on a weekly basis will keep the professional wax and tweeze looking great. In fact they may look so much like they’ve been professionally done in the salon that you may want to do your own eyebrow shaping from now on!

CHANEL SUNGLASSES

If I get a tax refund this year, I'm going to buy a pair of Chanel sunglasses for yours truly. I have been dying for some Chanel flower logo sunglasses even through the months when the sun wasn’t strong enough to bring on even as much as a tiny bit of a squint.

I’m using the 100% UV protection to justify my purchase. Beyond that the only reason behind coughing up the cash for authentic Chanel sunglasses is pure fashion frenzy and vanity of course.

And to give you an answer to that unasked question; no I’m not willing to settle for fake Chanel sunglasses. There are several reasons that I feel that buying designer imitations. I must confess that I have bought a few knockoffs in my day and a few were alright. But in the long run only the genuine pieces truly made me truly happy. I would rather have fewer items in my wardrobe of glasses and have the pleasure of wearing authentic Chanel sunglasses
.

There are several styles that I have my eye on this season. One is the Model Number 4164B with a brown frame and brown gradient lenses. They have flowers on each temple sprinkled with tiny rhinestones that form the Chanel logo. The other pair I’m considering is the Chanel Aviator sunglasses that have similar rhinestones (or are they Swarovski crystals?). If I seem hung up on the rhinestones it’s because I tried on a pair of the Chanel flower sunglasses and the Chanel Aviator embellished sunglasses and they just frame a girl’s face to perfection.

Those are just two models that I’m lusting after at the moment. There’s no way I can afford two pairs of Chanel sunglasses, but I can dream can’t I?

If all goes well I may find my dream glasses on EBay at a discount. Don’t worry, I’m careful and never buy without checking out the seller and requiring all documentation of authenticity.

How your manicure and pedicure are performed as well as the color nail polish you choose all play a part in keeping your nails looking good as long as possible. Even if you know how to do a manicure and pedicure at home that just costs a few dollars but looks just like you spent a bundle at the salon there is the time spent to consider.

LONG LASTING POLISH

There are times when nothing less than long, dramatic fingernails will do. But for everyday, you will get more mileage out of a light color than dark red. Every little nick and chip that is oh so visible on a darkly painted nail hardly shows on a shade that is as close to the color of the natural nail bed as you can be happy with.

PUSH DON’T CUT!

Cuticles that are snipped rather than gently pushed back tend to look ragged quickly. So, tell your technician to limit the clippers to major shape changes for your nails and to use the orange wood stick for your cuticles. Then it’s up to you to regularly apply cuticle minimizer cream to eliminate the dead cuticle cells.

TOP IT OFF

Any chips that become visible can be camouflaged with a touchup from a neutral color polish pen. Again, light shades are easier to manage as a perfect match isn’t going to be as crucial as it might be with dark colors. Add a layer of clear topcoat and your manicure and pedicure will last a bit longer.

MOISTURIZE

Even the most meticulously maintained manicure and pedicure can’t make rough, dry skin look good. The key is to moisturize those hands and feet. Exfoliate your rosy toes in the shower with a foot file and follow up with a cream immediately upon leaving the tub. Scrubs are not recommended because they wreak havoc on the shine of your topcoat.
Anything worth having is worth the extra effort to maintain and when it comes to personal appearance, the benefits of a neat
manicure and pedicure are endless.

HOW TO DO A MANICURE and PEDICURE AT HOME – DIY MANICURE and PEDICURE INSTRUCTIONS

Not so long ago did you imagine that you’d ever need to know how to do a manicure and pedicure at home? Well, what goes up has a nasty habit of going right back down and the key to not having ugly nails in those months when your budget is stressed is to learn how to a polished (if you’ll forgive the pun), professional DIY manicure and pedicure.

Shop at a beauty supply store to get top of the line manicure supplies for the best results or your DIY manicure may waste more money than it saves. The money that you spend for top quality nail clippers, polish and files is an excellent investment even if the prices are more expensive than what they cost at the local discount store.

Here’s a basic supply list:

A large bowl that is big enough for your hands to fit inside and heavy enough not to tip over easily that’s been filled with warm water, soap (I like to use my favorite body wash but it’s your choice)
Cotton makeup remover pads or large cotton balls. Don't waste money on small skimpy cotton balls as you will just end up using more. Starting off with big ones will save you time.
Nail polish remover with or without acetone
Orange wood cuticle sticks and cuticle cream
High-quality hand cream
Nail clippers and toenail clippers (I never use my nail clippers for my toenails or vice versa)
Nail files
Nail polishes including base coat, color coat and top coat
Terrycloth hand towels and paper towels

TIPS:
In my experience the best time to do a manicure and pedicure at home is immediately following a bath after you have exfoliated both your hands and feet.

It’s considered fashionable at the time of these instructions on how to do a manicure and pedicure at home to match your fingernail polish and toenail polish. Of course fashion trends have a way of changing in the blink of an eye.

Once you have your bowl of warm water and soap and your manicure supplies arranged on the table where you will be working you are ready to start.

Step One. After washing your hands with soap and water to remove all lotions and oils, you will then remove all of the old nail polish from your fingernails for a fresh start. Once the old polishes removed wash your hands once again to remove the finger nail polish remover.

Step Two. Shape your nails using the nail clippers or the fingernail file depending on whether you need to reduce the length or just smooth rough edges. When using your fingernail file he will start at the outer edge and smooth across the middle in one motion. Never saw a back-and-forth as this will weaken your nails and make them prone to splitting.

Step Three. Soak your hands in your bowl of warm water for around five minutes.

Step Four. After soaking, dry your hands with a cotton towel.

Step Five. Place a small amount of cuticle cream on each of your fingernails and massage it into your cuticles

Step Six. It’s not a good idea to clip your cuticles because of the danger of infection. Instead use your Orange wood cuticle stick to gently push your cuticles back and shape them.

Step Seven. At this stage, some instructions on how to do a manicure and pedicure at home recommend that at this time your should rinse your hands and apply a coat of your moisturizing hand cream and wait five minutes before wiping away the excess. I disagree with this as there may be some cream left on your fingernails resulting in failure of the base coat to adhere to the fingernail. Try it both ways and make a decision as to what works for you.

Step Eight. Upon a layer of base coat to each fingernail and allow to dry completely before moving onto the next step.

Step Nine. Apply one layer up your color coat of polish and allow it to dry completely.

Step Ten. Apply a second layer of color coat and allow it to dry completely

Step Eleven. When you are certain that all layers are completely dry (the longer you wait the better the results and less chance of smudging) you can then put the finishing touches on your DIY manicure with top coat. This is my favorite step in how to do a manicure and pedicure at home because it’s what gives your fingernails that deep, gleaming polished look.

DIY PEDICURE INSTRUCTIONS

Step One. Exfoliate your feet by scrubbing and using a pumice stone on your heels and any calluses you may have.

Step Two. Some instructions for how to do a manicure and pedicure at home recommend at this point to apply moisturizer but I disagree with this recommendation cause of residual oils being left on the nails that may prevent your polish from lasting as well as it might when applied to a clean oil free nail.

Step Three. Shape your toenails using your toenail clippers and then smoothed them using a file.

Step Four. Massage cuticle cream into the cuticles and use your orange wood stick to gently press them back using the lightest pressure possible to avoid damage to the nail bed.

Step Five. Rinse feet making sure that all cuticle creams or moisturizer if you chose to use one has been removed

Here’s the fun part in how to do a manicure and pedicure at home; assume the toenail painting position which is which is sitting with your knee pulled tightly to your chest with one hand holding the toenail that you are polishing while the other hand applies polish.

Step Six. Using toe separators, tightly wadded up Kleenex or cotton balls separate your toes to avoid smudging from one toe to the next.

Repeat Steps Eight through Eleven of the DIY manicure instructions.

Even at that price, you should remember that these contraptions are not as versatile as a pair of pants. You won’t be able to wear them repeatedly without notice nor are they candidates for mixing and matching with separates.

Nicole Kidman has been one busy little bee running hither, thither and yon to promote "Australia" the film about an English aristocrat who inherits a ranch with no real clue of what ranching in the Outback is all about. This minor detail forces a liaison between stock-man, Hugh Jackman, to prevent an unwanted takeover.

The interview on David Letterman was strained and awkward as it always seems to be. What is it about Letterman that makes Nicole seem to be struggling for words? Irregardless of the less than flowing repartee between the two, her appearance was as always flawless. The mention of Sunday Rose always brings a smile to her face, but even that didn’t make the conversation flow as comfortably as we might have expected from two professionals who have been in the business so long that they should be capable of conducting interviews in their sleep.

When time came for her to be surrounded by the ladies of "The View" she seemed much more at ease and eager to share the depth of her feelings regarding motherhood, being a mom to baby Sunday Rose and marriage to hunky husband, Keith Urban. She strolled to her seat wearing a flesh tone sheath with festive red shoes. In her choice of said shoes it seemed to me that she was giving a nod to the holidays. However, the and gold metallic silver Dries Van Noten dress that she was seen wearing later proved that she had more flash up her sleeve than the nude color shift on "The View".

In closing, I’m sure Nicole Kidman and the movie, "Australia", will be fantastic, but the big thrill for this author is the opportunity to see Nicole Kidman looking fantastic (at 41 years of age no less) in one striking ensemble after another.

I can't say that I haven't wondered what the story was behind the Tina Fey scar. Apparently there are those who have been rather, shall we say, obsessive over hearing the details. Jeff Richmond, for one, admits that the origin of the scar that is on her left cheek fascinated him. He says that how it got there may indicate the way she thinks about life.

I can't be included in the numbers of fans who need to know all about the Tina Fey scar. But, I thought I'd let those nosy Nellies know that they need ponder no more. Her husband is reported to have revealed the shocking facts in an interview in Vanity Fair. And friend, they are enough to prevent you from letting your kids play in the yard ever again.

It was said that when she was only five years old that a stranger walked up to her in the front yard of her home. The little girl thought he had marked her with a pen (which is weird enough when you think about it)when in actuality, the freak had slashed the child's face resulting in Tina Fey's scar that has made so many curious. Just when you think evil idiots are a modern thing; there you go and now you know.

I have always admired Tina's spunk and spirit and to know this about her just makes me admire her positive attitude and view on life even more. If something this traumatic had happened to me, I'd probably be an agoraphobic for life. What a brave person to just keep right on going and not take a direct hit to the old self esteem.

REESE WITHERSPOON CHRISTMAS COMMENTS

In a recent interview with BBC News celebrity mom, Reese Witherspoon, allowed that she had no intentions of spoiling her kids this Christmas. She indicated that she is mindful and a little strict about that kind of stuff. She obviously feels that kids tend to appreciate and enjoy their gifts more when they receive a couple of items that they really enjoy so that they appreciate them more.

She went on to say that one of those limited items might just be a horse for daughter, Ava, who is nine years old. What little girl of that age would not want a horse to ride the rest of the year? It’s not a done deal, Reese is reported to be still on the fence.

I find it inspiring to see that celebrities with considerable means give some thought to avoiding the “spoiled rich kid” syndrome that comes with overindulgence. In the past we saw more than a few movie stars who showered their kids with too many expensive gifts and too little of their precious time. All the while we, their fans, thought the children were living in the lap of luxury in the Hollywood Hills somewhere when they were actually lonely and in need of some common sense parenting.

My hat’s off to Reese Witherspoon and the other celebrity moms who are working hard to raise kids with character and social responsibility and awareness. They will reap the rewards of their labor later and I can picture several ways that the rest of us can benefit right now. For starters we can begin by telling our kids that, "Even celebrity kids only get a few Christmas presents."

I have to say this may be one of the best Faith Hill hairstyles yet? What do you think? The only thing that I do not like is how she was constantly batting at the bangs. It made me want to run for a bobby pin or barrette.

She apparently is making the rounds of the talk shows to promote her Christmas CD "Joy to the World" that has been in the stores since September or October of this year. I know, enough about the new CD, visitors to this celebrity fashion website want to know what she was wearing.

What do all the blonde celebrity beauties seem to be wearing this winter? Why something long, lean and basic black. Faith Hill was right in line with Reese Witherspoon who recently appeared on the same show. However, Faith went with opaque, black stockings or fashion tights which created a continuous, slimming line from her shoulders to her toes. Has anyone else noticed that celebrity pantyhose is becoming noticeably darker?

There were, however, two bright pops of color. The other was visible after Dave greeted her and she made her way to her seat by his desk. Reese Witherspoon's black dress that she wore on David Letterman's show last night just knocked me out. I did a search for some pictures and found one from a few days ago taken at the premiere of Warner Brothers holiday film 'Four Christmases' and she was wearing a similar outfit. The neckline of the black strapless dress is the same in the earlier pics, but there are some subtle differences in last night's black, fitted cocktail dress and one that I admired on Letterman including a more figure flattering fit. The lacy slingback peeptoe heels were an improvement on the black ribbon tie shoes that she was wearing a few days ago as well.

Reese Witherspoon's black dress is topped off with a feminine chin length hairstyle that in combination with the smoky eye shadow makes her lovely eyes really shine.

Are those real diamonds in the earrings and large pendant of the necklace? Anybody care to name the number of carats contained in the jewelry? The pendant almost looks like an antique, but it could be a replica. If it is, I would love to know the designer, especially if the stones are simulated so that those of lesser means might be able to afford them! The Sarah Palin turkey video may be an indication that we have not seen the last of the satire surround the lovely Governor of the great State of Alaska just because the race to the White House has come to a close. She states in the video that a little bit of levity is a good thing. I wonder if her sense of humor stretches to the point of being alright about being set up to be interviewed in what appeared to be a turkey slaughterhouse while granting one bird amnesty.

I don't know about you, but because of the Sarah Palin turkey video, I may boycott turkey this year. It may take longer than a week to get a taste for turkey and dressing after watching the film. That may sound hypocritical to some, but I'm of the out of sight out of mind mentality. I prefer not to see where my meat comes from. Governor Palin on the other hand has been reported to be a hunter she is more than likely not the squeamish type. Getting up close and personal with the butchering process may not turn her stomach as it does mine.

Seeing this pic of Tina Fey panning for the camera at the 2008 Museum Gala held at the American Museum of Natural History one can't help but wonder is she relieved that the whole Sarah Palin thing is over in time for Thanksgiving turkey or does she miss all of the attention she got via the vice-presidential hopeful's look alike engagements? I wonder if she will be approached to give a satirical representation of the Sarah Palin turkey video?

She had reportedly mentioned in a joking way that when SNL was attempting to contact her to do the Sarah Palin act on the show that she was dodging their calls. This is not surprising as she probably has more than enough on her plate with her successful sitcom. However, I'm glad they finally were able to schedule her for the SNL appearance as it was without a doubt one of the best episodes ever!

In this pic, Tina has lost the signature eyeglasses and therefore much of the faux Palin personality. I wonder if it was as easy to drop the accent that she had perfected in her Tina Fey as Sarah Palin role? She had her speech patterns down pat and knew just how deeply to accentuate the telltale touchpoints without going into comedic overload which would have undermined the effects of the performance.

Ashlee Simpson Baby Born in Time for the Holidays

One celebrity couple has an excellent reason to give thanks; Ashlee Simpson’s baby is here just in time for the holidays! I can think of no better reason to celebrate the season than with a precious newborn baby. If the bundle of joy happens to belong to one of my favorite celebrity moms it is without a blessing worthy of thanks.

The reported facts on Ashlee Simpson baby, etc. are as follows:

1. Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles
2. The baby boy is named Bronx Mowgli Wentz
3. He weighed in at a perfect baby weight of seven pounds plus eleven ounces and measured twenty and one half inches in length

I have not read the rhyme and reason behind the name Bronx, nor the middle name Mowgli. There was some mention that proud daddy, Pete Wentz, informed Ryan Seacrest they had been advised by a friend to select a name that would be appropriate regardless of whether there was a career as a rock and roll star or a seat in the United States Senate in the newborn’s future. No tips or clues as to who this secret friend was that offered this tidbit of sage advice, but you have to admit that he shows wisdom in the process of choosing names for babies.

In my opinion this celebrity couple will be interesting to watch. They have just the right mix of off the wall originality as was displayed in their gothic wedding ceremony and the rumors that their baby’s nursery theme might be based on the movie "Nightmare Before Christmas" and thoughtful sentimentality.

On the traditional side, Ashlee Simpson has been quoted as saying that her pregnancy was one of the most amazing experiences of her life and that she was focused on a healthy pregnancy and baby. She managed to keep a very low profile during those months and we might assume this was to reduce the stress that public appearances put on celebrities. Another nod to tradition was the recent Winnie the Pooh baby shower.

Many find the flip flopping from one camp to the other perplexing. However, I find it captivating, healthy and can’t wait for the first installment of the Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson baby pictures. Will they do a big spread in a major entertainment magazine and donate the proceeds to charity? Or will they take the more personal, private route and make us all suffer? It will be interesting to see what this intriguing couple plus one has up their sleeve.

I would love to hear your opinion on actress Jennifer Westfeldt’s royal blue dress. Could the number of fabric rosettes that are encircling the scoop neck of the dress and slipping over the shoulder gilding the lily a bit on the excessive side? Or are the embellishments a fitting and suitable frame for this blonde haired beauty’s lovely face?

Could we have done without the continuation of the swirling fabric down the front of the dress (which with the covered belt could almost be called a modified shirtwaist style) and around the knee length hemline?

Frankly, the dress is lovely but the minute I laid eyes on these pictures of Jennifer Westfeldt something seemed “off” to me. The color worked, the decorative touches that I mentioned in the previous paragraphs were not too heavy or out of place and the overall look was okay. So, what was it that kept bugging me?

Dark black tights have been overdone as fall fashion trends in my opinion. This outfit would have been much prettier (again in my opinion) with nude stockings, but without a doubt the black hose were fashionable. But then I zoomed in to get a better look at her black peep toe shoes and what became evident to my surprise was that the stockings were not silky black, but black fishnet tights or stockings!

I love fishnet tights or stockings, but do they work with this dress? Somehow I’m having a difficult time trying to mesh the curves of the delicate dress that Jennifer Westfeldt is wearing so gracefully with the diamond shaped patterns in her stocking no matter how sexy men consider them to be.

MARCIA CROSS - Proof That Women with Red Hair Rock!

Marcia Cross may not have natural red hair, but unlike most women with red hair she knows how to work it. She has a keen eye for what colors to wear with her hair color that include just the right shades of green and as seen in this picture, lavender.

Her porcelain skin and eyes are those seen on red headed women who came by it the natural way as indeed she may have earlier in life. Who cares if she gets a little help from her hair stylist? Believe me when I tell you that Marcia Cross' long red hair could be on any number of women without those spectacular results. I, myself, have tried Loreal hair color Feria shades of red and auburn with less than attractive results. My skin color was suited for dark red dye nor the light strawberry blonde look.

These Marcia Cross photos show her long red hair as a carrot orange color which may have been due to the sunlight at the time the picture was taken because at other times its a much deeper, richer shade. You have to hand it to her, not many modern ladies are bold enough to venture into that area of the color spectrum. Even fewer could look as beautiful as this celebrity does after the deed is done. It's a sad fact that all women with red hair are not pretty. But I'm confident that nobody will deny that Marcia Cross is drop dead gorgeous with a stylish look beyond compare.

Have you heard rumors of a Sienna Miller Getty split? According to usmagazine, they are not rumors. She told them at the Hollywood Dominoes: VIP Launch in London that she was single at the the moment and perfectly happy about it and that it was nice to take a breather from the press's constant relationship scrutiny. She was reported to not take kindly to the public being made privy to the topless pictures that were taken of her last summer. To say that dating is difficult for celebrities would be a major understatement.

We noted in the pictures a day or so ago that Sienna Miller had a sassy look in her eyes on that day and looking back at the picture that we included in this article; she seems to be almost confidently defiant doesn't she?

ALICIA KEYS, KID ROCK PICTURES and MORE

Alicia Keys, Kid Rock, Uma Thurman and Pink were all part of the lineup of a German television show that believes in booking entertainment to fit any and all musical as well as visual tastes. There was something for everybody here from Kid Rock and Pink rocking hard only to be soothed and entertained by Uma and Alicia.

Uma Thurman paid homage to the fall season dripping in stylish beaded necklaces that layered over what appeared to be a large gold leaf at the neckline of her diaphanous black gown. The dress would have been perfect except for the knee high boots that looked too much like knee high stockings or knee socks. This unusual addition to the ensemble was visible where a peek at her pretty legs would have served better in my humble opinion.

Pink favored a less feminine look achieved with a modified, black and white pinstriped zoot suit with a ruched, short jacket and spike heel black patent leather (can't be sure if they were ankle boots or knee high) boots. Pink, never one to stick to the norm, at one point was riding what appeared to be a John Deere green and yellow lawn mower although I didn't spot the logo.

With the neckline of her elegant black gown dipping to the waist, Alicia Keys was the epitome of elegance. Knowing that this lily needed no gilding, she wore simple hoop earrings and no necklace.

These pictures of Jessica Alba, revealing her earth mother side with baby stroller and all, were probably taken earlier in the fall as her feet were practically bare in thongs peeping from under her long denim skirt. When I came upon them, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to showcase this celebrity mom and give her credit for shopping in the discount stores even before it was common knowledge that the economy was not that great and bargain shopping might be a good idea.

One might think that celebrity mom, Jessica Alba, also proved her savvy shopping skills in her choice of basic black baby diaper bag that we see hanging on the handles of the stroller. Except, I believe that the diaper bag might be the Mommy Chic baby diaper that was part of the huge presentation of baby shower gifts that were given to her on the Tyra Banks show.

Katie Holmes and daughter Suri are seen out for a stroll on this fine fall day in their neighborhood in New York. The celebrity mom and daughter duo stopped off at a nearby park for a little outdoor fun. Once again, Suri was fashionably dressed in black leggings.

KARINA SMIRNOFF - Identify the Gold Sandals and Pray for the Legs

Most of us can only wish for Karina Smirnoff legs, but the shoes are another thing altogether, IF you can identify them. These strappy gold designer sandals with (rhinestone?) buckles and ankle straps pull the polished red toes and amazing single shoulder red dress that Karina was wearing when posing for pictures with brunette beauty, Toni Braxton. But can you identify the designer of the shoes and evening bag?

The gold sandals cover more of her pretty celebrity feet than other styles that I have seen. They are similar to many of the top designer's creations, but there are unique differences like the charm, the buckles on the ankle straps, etc. The width of the straps compares to Stuart Weitzman gold python sandals but again, not quite the same.

If anyone wants to take a guess at identifying the brand of the strappy gold spike heels and gold evening clutch; go ahead take your best shot!

FALL FASHION TIGHTS

Fall fashions are in a constant state of flux, but you can always bet that tights will figure into the equation in some pattern, shape or form. Some years they lurk in the wings practically hanging their heads that they are good for little more than compression or support in the legs of professionals that have jobs that keep them on their feet for long hours at a time.

Then when you come around to a comfortable acceptance that they are good for layering under pants or boots for additional warmth in a pinch where black tights that go with anything is as good as it gets, out comes the latest in pantyhose tights in funky colors and patterns that haven’t been seen since the late 1960s when fishnet and windowpane stockings in crazy colors.

The history of tights goes way back but their most shining moment was in the days of flower power Haight Ashbury in the 60s was dominated by crazy outfits and out of this world fashion trends. There were young girls as well as grown women wearing cool, fashion tights under their mini-skirts that Twiggy and models of the day made so very popular without much emphasis on coordination. Plaids were lumped together with mod outfits and feather boas of contrasting colors that would give Liberace a headache, but there was method in the madness and somehow it all managed to work. We are still talking about the fashions worn in the era of Peace and Love so if nothing else; the styles were memorable.

The major complaint that was made about early fashion tights was that in the beginning before Lycra and Spandex came along was that by the end of the day the nylons were bagging in an unattractive manner at the knees. Even today, if you sit long enough you may find that your hosiery doesn’t spring back as quickly as you might like. Another fact is that most tights of days gone came before pantyhose was widely available. Whether you were trying to be sexy or not; your stockings were held up by a garter belt.

What I find funny is that every fall young girls head out to the discount stores to pick up the latest in hosiery in colors they are told are hip, trendy. They are fully convinced that they will not be able to properly dress without a particular pair and what is even more humorous is that they believe they are the first to appreciate tights as a fall fashion accessory.

There is a school of thought that any time is a good time for goth makeup ideas. The hot pink or electric blue really looked cool with the platinum blonde in the background and the colors wouldn’t have been as eye catching on my dark black hair which resembles a raven’s wing in its natural state.

You may be amazed to find that gothic makeup tips for blondes and brunettes are worlds apart. I have really been considering permanent eyeliner but there a few things holding me back from jumping on board and getting my eyeliner tattoos done. First off there's the issue of pain (anybody that tells you that tattoos don't hurt at least a little, depending on the area of application, is lying to you!) and I'm a sissy when it comes to pain. The idea of a tattoo artist working my wrist, my arm or my ankle is one thing, but the idea of burning sensations on my sensitive eyelid is slightly more daunting.

Why would a panty waist such as myself even consider getting an eyeliner tattoo?

If she must wear platforms, a thicker heel or even platform heels might be a safer choice while still offering the look of a long, shapely leg.

She would have been just as cute in a pair of pretty thong sandals or even partying in her bare feet! Somebody needs to tell this pretty girl that there's no need to put herself in danger of falling just to look sexy! Hike the boobs up and skip the teetering spike heels, please!

What sets the celebrities apart from the rest of us where wardrobe is concerned is often the fact that they don't seem to let the fact that they may only have one outfit that looks fabulous with any one pair of shoes or an expensive handbag that doesn't match but one outfit. When I saw this yummy robin's egg blue hobo bag, I began to run over how many dresses or suits that I could wear it with to justify the price.

Not being blessed with lovely, large eyes and long lashes has pushed me to be pretty dependent on eyeliner. I once considered giving permanent eyeliner tattoos a shot but chickened out; I was that sick of eyeliner that had no need for an eyeliner smudger. It smudged, creased and ran very well all on its own. It just never stayed put.

For a eyeliner styles that give a smokey look with undefined edges, it's hard to beat pencils or crayons if you are brave. But it's just hard to beat liquid color applied with a brush for a dramatic look. For a retro look, I have used a technique that involved a broad band of white and a thin black line closer to my lashes. Lookout Twiggy, we're going back to the 60s!

If you exercise or shed the occasional tear you will appreciate gel eyeliner. Even the worst gel outpaces the BEST old time liquids for staying power. The best liquid gel eyeliner that I've tried so far is the Bobbi Brown eyeliner gel.

Here are some eyeliner tips that may make applying eyeliner a less stressful event:

Coat both sides of the brush evenly. Don't just put the product on one side.
Be certain not to load the brush to heavily. Wipe off excess ahead of time to avoid globs of liner where you don't want it
Work from the inner corner of your eyelid to the outer edges.
Make short, steady strokes to carry your color across the lid.

The only complaints that I have about this brand of gel eyeliner are that the product dried up pretty quickly (Smashbox's product was just as bad) and the second thing is that it takes a really good eye makeup remover to get it off. This is both what I love about gel eyeliner and what I hate about it....I love that it stays on but I hate the effort it takes to remove it.

Wedge heels and platforms seem to be the style that's coming our way. Not surprisingly, Marc Jacobs designed some classic styles that we saw a few decades ago being worn with platforms and wedge heels in a very interesting and modern style. Long jackets were given a very chic, French feel with crisp lines. The collars were what made a profound statement; very interesting flares and drape.

When I quiz my friends on their opinions of the outfits, makeup and hairstyles of the previous night's American Idol episode, we usually agree on the winners and losers of the evening. Today was unusual in that on the issue of Jason Castro's dreadlock hairstyle the votes were split pretty much down the center.

Some of the girls who are much more trendy that I could ever dream to be and whom I expected to consider the appearance of dreds to be cutting edge and stylish were surprisingly opposed to this cute guy's fashion statement. One gal pal said if he'd cut the hair that he'd be her favorite hands down, and another said she'd rather see the return of the huge 70s style afro rather than Marley dreds.

Some of my more conservative (unofficial of course)voters who are sticklers for classic haircuts and tradition shocked me by slobbering all over themselves over the dreadlocks. Well, maybe not the dreadlocks themselves, but the handsome guy with the guitar who just happened to have them attached to his head.

No matter how you feel about his hairstyle, Jason Casto has charisma. He might not be as strong a singer as David Archuleta, but there's no denying that Jason has star appeal much the same as a young Bob Dylan. I know that Simon and Randy wanted to hear more vocals and less strumming, but I think the audience was loving the whole package...dreds and all.

Can Hillary Clinton possibly appreciate all the "Bitch is the New Black" jokes going around? Does she even know that the statements are directed at her and depicting her as a power hungry, ball busting masculine sort of femme fatale in a designer skirt or pantsuit. Does she really care?

Probably not! She has not become so well positioned politically by being thin skinned and sweating the small stuff. If she will focus on the big picture of building this country back to the level of greatness in the world that it once enjoyed the same way she has tunnel visioned her way into the political spotlight....hang on people we're going up like a rocket.

But then again, this blog is not about the political arena. Leave running the country to experts. I have had ever so much fun observing Hillary's fashion metamorphosis over the years. Remember how people criticized the large blue hat that she wore so long ago for hubby's swearing in? Then people began harping on the pantsuits and what that might be telling us about the hierarchy of the Clinton household post Monica.

I couldn't help but notice that once Ms Clinton became a senator, her grooming seemed to suffer. One might hope that she had bigger fish to fry than spending time perfecting her hairstyle and practicing eye makeup tips. I hope that Hillary has a plan in place for all of her campaign promises and that she hires a really great personal shopper.

Why on earth would Natasha Sizow, a teacher, send photos of herself naked or nearly naked to both boy students as well as girl students? What are the parents going to do about nasty teachers? It seems that Ugg boots should have run their course by now, but with cigarette jeans being seen worn by the celebrities, looks like we will have at least one more season of the warm Australian booties. The Early Show jumped on board with us this morning and didn’t give this little movie star fashion blog a bit of credit! No surprises there, but pardon me if I can’t resist the temptation to crow a bit on being on the cutting edge of star wardrobe trends that are easy for the average woman to copy. Shoebooties are really cheap and we are always on the lookout for an inexpensive way to look fresh and stylish.

Joanna Coles, gave a demonstration on the proper way to wear this style lady's shoe as well as sharing her ideas on when, where and how the boots might be worn with success.

Why she would bother to issue warnings that every woman (or kids) might not be able to pull off the fashion? It stands to reason that you wouldn’t put a young child in stiletto heels with pointed toes to protect the development of their young, delicate feet. Nor would an elderly person want to wear an urban style with gothic studs and chains although all that metal might just look stunning against the chrome on their walker!

There are many photographs of Britney Spears on the net today that were taken of her as she was prancing about celebrating her birthday.
She was all about black and white partywear except for large almost square lense sunglasses in brown! My first question would be why she would break up a reasonably sophisticated monochromatic look with off color brown sunglasses. Then it just might smack me on the head to wonder why those girls are wearing shades at night? What's the point in that unless they think their eyes might be telltale windows into what they were up to? In the photo that I saw, she was hanging arm in arm with cousin Ali Sims and there was just a glimpse of Paris Hilton in the background.

Black is Britney's color. With her hair bleached as light as can be, black is just perfect and the wide black beaded choker was a nice touch to the fur (we can only hope it was faux fur) trimmed leather jacket was nice, too.

Cousin Ali was wearing a pewter or silver metallic shift and peep toe pumps as well as yet another pair of BROWN shades. Anybody care to comment on all those brown glasses?

CELINE DION'S BLACK SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS

There's no denying that Celine Dion could take two foot length pieces of wood, strap them on her lovely narrow feet and make them fashionable! I've admired the way she looks in her outfits as well as her selection of footwear and today is no different.

She was wearing textured black tights and black suede ankle boots. The dress was a form fitting black number with hot pink detailing which was cute, but whose allure was pale in comparison to the display closer to the floor!
It makes me ask the question how Celine stays so thin, but manages to skirt the "skinny stick legs" syndrome that plagues models with similar body mass.

I'm not certain of the designer of the black boots, but here are some similar styles with the pictures of the more expensive ones at the top and the inexpensive ones last.

The Lumiani Bedelia come in gray and brown suede as well as black and I just love the heel which is just a slight bit more substantial than the Vina. How do you like that precious, sexy ruffle at the top? The selling point of the Vina is the joining of black suede with patent leather details. Many ladies will prefer the slightly tapered heel. For use with a business suit, the pleated cuff on the Lumiani Viera might display those sexy calves in a more professional manner.

I know this entry started out as a tribute to Celine Dion's ankle boots, but
I can't resist showing you this pair of playful, mid-calf Betsey Johnson faux fur trimmed boots. They scream "ski vacation" don't they? The pom poms make me want to be a cheerleader! Spike heels add some sex appeal to the mix.

I just saw celebrity mom, Tori Spelling, on The View and I have to say that she looked fabulous! Motherhood has really brought out the best in Tori. She has developed a confident and stylish look that I can only wish to copy!

Her hairstyle is short, very blonde and suits her to a T. I'm searching for the fabulously flattering deep purple (or royal blue?) spaghetti strap dress that she was wearing so if anybody knows the designer please let me know. It had a pretty gathered bodice and skirt that might even make me look hot!

HELLE COMFORT SHOES - DRESSY SEXY BLACK SLIDES and SANDALS

Forgive my sudden obsession with Helle Comfort shoes, but they have me completely hooked! I set out to find some black patent leather sandals and was completely blind sided by the style of these cool shoes! I had heard people discuss them on the web, but I tend to discount any shoe with the word "comfort" or "comfortable" associated with them as matronly or something granny might toddle about in, not exactly a good match for what I look for in footwear.

I like heels and wedges that make my feet look trim and sleek. I pay close attention to how they make the calf of my legs look from the rear. If they don't add to the long and sexy look that I want, they're history! So, when I find a brand that does all that and is COMFORTABLE....oh hello. There we go.

The beaded pump is going in my shopping cart for a Christmas cocktail party option and the soft puckered leather ballerina flat with the silver buckle is coming along just because it's so cute! And why do I adore the slides with the multiple buckles? Because they are adjustable which will make them fit so nicely over the high instep of my foot. Anybody else have problems getting shoes to fit over the arch of your foot without pain? OUCH!

I chose those mules over the ones with the crystals beading for that very reason. Although, I really did like the way those beads sparkled!

BLACK SEQUINS - HAYDEN PANETTIERE STYLE

Not so long ago it was Miley Cyrus in red sequins and then I see Hayden Panettiere pictures and what was she wearing? BLACK SEQUINS! The neckline was round and I couldn't really tell if it was a bubble dress or just your run of the mill Empire waist standard hemline mini. With her blonde hair it was a super contrast. I'm not sure she chose the best shoes for the outfit, though. I would have loved to see her in a pair of sequin peep toe pumps in a spike heel as she is not that tall.

Tell me which of the above shoes you think work best with a black sequined mini-dress? The maryjanes that she was wearing resembled the ones above except the heel was square and chunky. It's my opinion (and I want to hear yours)that the peep toes are lovely, but I think that the spike heels would be nicer and more slimming than the chunk, thick heels.

Well, maybe but Miley Cyrus has her own sense of style and fashion and was seen wearing a top that would win the title of red sequin top of the season in my book. Here's a red sequin bag that I think shines nicely, but Miley (aka Hannah Montana) did it better. She's a pretty girl in red sequins or whatever!

I don't know that I'd have the confidence to clothe my entire upper bod in blazing, sparkling red sequined glory, but a purse or even some red sequin beaded evening shoes paired with a black cat suit ala Olivia Newton John in Grease makes me want to shed those extra pounds and go 80s on somebody!

I'd never manage to look sexy like Olivia Newton John or Miley Cyrus. I'd probably come off looking like some demented flapper in full costume with feathers. Kind of like Cruella DeVille with a long cigarette holder and a wicked look in my eyes.

Every fall (and a few springs, summers as well) the questions rings through the halls of fashion knowledge as to whether wild animal prints will be done...again. If so, HOW will they be on display? Will shoes and purses be all the rage or will the printed furs be limited to coat and jacket collars as trim and decoration?

It's not cold enough to make the FALL 2007 faux fur call for coats and jackets, but I am really excited about some of the Beverly Feldman leopard print shoes and that's a fact! At this point even if not another warm body is wearing leopard print, I'm going to step out and be a rebel because these shoes are just too classic and sexy to pass by.

Those multi-colored jeweled ballet flats will be perfect with my hot mama jeans, I may have to embellish them with some matching beading if I can find some beads and gemstones in similar colors! I can't decide which I like better, the beaded leopard ballet flats or the cap toe ballet flats with the perky bows? I'm crazy about both! I'm in love with the combination of rich, black suede and leopard and cheetah prints. Those stacked heels are a feast for men's eyes. And baby I'm counting on them to carry those men's eyes right on up my long legs! What about that platform, peep toe pair? They are seductive enough without peep toes and leopard covered heels, but with them they are knock dead gorgeous! I plan to have my pretty polished toes ready to peep through a pair or three. . They are gray (or off white) lizard with spectacular beading and faux gemstones beaded across the leather from toe to the petite low heel! What I love about these bejeweled shoes is that the beads' sizes are varied from small, medium and on to the large round stones on the toes. Italian made ballet flats that are the height of high end luxury is the only way I can think to describe them!

I must admit that I'm a late comer to the Helle Comfort shoes team. I just didn't see many styles that I liked and they are rather expensive for shoes that don't knock our collective socks off. But here I am waving the Helle Comfort flag with new found gusto once I saw these precious wedge heels in black with a round red buckle.

I'm not a fashionistic type that must know the history and manufacturing details of my shoes. My requirements are few. They must be comfortable, make my legs look long and lean and if at all be on sale at a low low discounted price!

Labrador Days with JENNIFER ANNISTON and OWEN WILSON

A classic tale of puppy love, labrador style. Word is that Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson of recent You, Me and Dupree fame will be starring in an adaptation called Marley Me. John Grogan had written the tale from his memoirs regarding his own labrador retriever who was apparently famous for his own mischievous habits.

John Grogan wrote the story about his life with the labrador in 2005 to aid in the preparation of parenthood. I'm all for therapeutic memories and the belief of cleansing the soul through putting thoughts on paper, but how does a tale about a dog get a person in shape for parenting? Apparently it has something to do with working through unexpected chaos. I suppose we'll have to wait until the film releases to see, won't we?

Production is reported to begin in 2008.

We love Tom Cruise in his role as anti-Hitler activist and those sunglasses he's wearing are really cool classic style, too. I know I've blogged not once but twice about sunglasses on the same day! BRITNEY SPEARS - HER SUNGLASSES

I'm not certain that anybody could accuse Britney Spears of viewing the world through rose colored glasses, but there WAS a sighting of her in silver aviator style sunglasses with what seemed to be pink (or rose) colored lenses.

The lenses may have been heavier on the tears, longer in shape on the sides and I don't believe that there was a mirror effect on the lense because her eyes were very visible. The nose piece was not thick like Ray-Ban aviators, but that may have been the case.

I liked the sunglasses, but the real news is that she appeared to have enough new growth of hair to have allowed her to be without her wig. Her hair color is a brassy blonde which was a real switch from the dark brown wigs that she has seemed to favor during her bald stage.

Leiv Schreiber and Naomi Watts Out With Celebrity Baby Alexander seemed to be less than thrilled to see the worrisome photographers show up cameras in hand. According to the video Leiv took matters into hand and pushed the paps back.

Leiv and Naomi were dressed in casual clothes, he in black shorts and a white button shirt and she in white top and shorts and toes peeking out of thongs in what appeared to be silver or a white pearlized leather similar to these Birkenstocks.

Leiv's footwear was casual in this style but the massage the shoes were performing on the soles of his feet appeared to do very little to relax him in the face of flashing cameras.

IS BRITNEY SPEARS LOVING Criss Angel Dragons Skulls and Whatever

Just saw a picture of celebrity mom, Britney Spears, and Criss Angel walking side by side and I was struck by the differences in the personal taste. Britney had on a relatively stylish strapless form fitting dress and looked nice except for the ill fitting brown wig. Criss Angel on the other hand had on what appeared to be an Affliction Xtreme Couture t-shirt similar to this one and lots of chains and rings and other mannish jewelry that came off as a complete opposite of how she was dressed. Not criticizing, but I wonder if she likes the skull and crossbones style or just likes Criss in SPITE of it?

MARC JABOBS T STRAP ONLY BETTER!

Marc Jacobs shoes have done the Mary Jane thing and the t strap thing, now here we have the t-strap only better. BOOTS! That's right t strap boots. I had to look very closely to see that the advertisement wasn't for a pair of t strap shoes whose popularity may or may not have come from all of the Dancing With the Stars and other ballroom dancing pursuits.

Indeed these Marc by Marc Jacobs boots almost seem to be a pair of t straps with a pair of suede textured stockings underneath. How interesting! I can't wait to see which of the celebs picks up this classic boot for Fall 2007! The platform is covered in black patent leather (which seems to be making a real impact on footwear fashion offerings this fall), the heels are solid and I suppose you could call them chunky while the column of the boot is out of butter soft suede.

I'm seeing a trend in lady's fall shoes that's knocking me out and sending me out to search for ankle boots. The ones that I'm loving like crazy so far are these super juicy delicious black suede leather ones with a nice spike heel. Not too high, but just right.

I've seen women with ankle high red boots, black boots and some purple ankle boots. One thing is for sure, ankle boots WILL be worn this fall with wrap dress and other outfits.

Well, Paris Hilton taste of freedom was extremely short lived as she allegedly now being hauled back to the slammer kicking and screaming figuratively speaking. Her mom and dad appear confused and disapproving of the entire process and we can certainly see their point. Marg Helgenberger was on television this morning with her celebrity toes prettily displayed in a pair of lovely metallic gold strappy sandals with a covered heel. She pulled the look together with a pair of white tailored slacks with a gold trim belt at the waist. Here are some shoes that resemble the ones that Marg Helgenberger was wearing this morning.
